The Race Is Down To Two

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Mon, 04/07/2025 - 6:00am

If truth be told I’m kind of bummed that Mike McDonnell didn’t make it out of the primary.

Now don’t get me wrong, as an Omaha citizen I’m very happy knowing that there are two decent qualified candidates running for mayor. If either John Ewing or Jean Stothert wins the general election Omaha will be in good hands.

A Kodak Moment

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Fri, 04/04/2025 - 6:00am

What do you do when you hate the possible solution to a problem but can’t think of a better one? Is it best to accept the bad solution or just realize you’ll have to live with the problem?

That’s the situation members of the Unicameral find themselves in right now as they try to find a solution to the red light runners.

It’s springtime and if you’re like me you find yourself saying those three little words…..

The Ball Is In Your Court Jean Stothert!

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Thu, 03/27/2025 - 6:00am

In a number of recent columns, I have expressed my firmly held belief that getting rid of dividing our electoral votes and going to “Winner Take All” is bad for Nebraska and, more specifically, Omaha.

So, when Jean Stothert was a guest of the Free Speech Society last Saturday, I asked her the first question, and it was why she supports “Winner Take All.”

“To Thine Own Self Be True”

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 03/26/2025 - 6:00am

Jeremy Aspen is a successful businessman, lifelong Republican, and a citizen contributor to the Omaha World-Herald editorial board. He recently created a bit of a stir in local political circles when he wrote an editorial saying that after being very active in the party for years, he was switching his affiliation and is now a Democrat.

Don’t Piss On My Boots And Tell Me It’s Raining

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Tue, 03/18/2025 - 12:00am

President Trump put some pressure on Governor Pillen, so Governor Pillen then put some pressure on the members of Nebraska’s Government, Military, and Veterans Affairs Committee and got winner-take-all to go before the General Assembly. Pillen hopes that if Nebraska buckles to the wishes of President Trump, the President will support him or at least not go against him, and support Pillens former foe Chuck Herbster should he decide to run for governor again.

Omaha Churches Provide Shelter From Taxes

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Thu, 03/13/2025 - 6:00am

Let me start by saying, for the record, that I support any and all religious beliefs as long as they are not using their God as a tool to justify hurting other people. As you know, historically some churches of all religious denominations have started wars or terrorist attacks in the name of their God.

Omaha Can’t Afford Voters With Short Term Memories

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Wed, 03/12/2025 - 6:00am

Mike McDonnell is banking on the hope that voters have short memories or no recollection of the past.

It’s understandable if they don’t remember. After all, voters have jobs, families, and a lot of other things on their minds. So, when they see a TV ad for McDonnell with former Omaha mayors PJ Morgan and Mike Fahey, they either weren’t around or don’t remember what happened under those mayors decades ago.

Weed The People...

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Mon, 03/10/2025 - 6:00am

Those are the first three words of the Preamble to the Constitution. The very foundation of our government is based on the will of the citizens.

It doesn’t say “They the Oligarchs.” Senator Ricketts needs to remember that.

The Trump Cult

Published by maggie@omahadai... on Fri, 03/07/2025 - 6:00am

Have you ever been in a really bad relationship? One where your partner lied, cheated, and gaslighted you? One where you made excuses for them because you didn’t want to admit you were involved with someone you couldn’t trust?

I have.
