It is hardly breaking news that some areas of Nebraska are dealing with a shortage of attorneys. Some recent reports have suggested that around a dozen counties are without a single attorney based within the county lines.

Accepting Everyone In Need, Serving Hope

Founded in 1975, Siena Francis House is Nebraska’s largest provider of services to individuals experiencing homelessness, and is located in six facilities at 17th & Nicholas Streets in downtown Omaha. (Shutterstock)

As of 2020, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) estimates that roughly 580,000 people across the country are experiencing homelessness. In Nebraska alone it is estimated that at any one time around 2,400 people are left without a stable home to live in. Siena Francis House is trying to change that by making sure no one is left out in the cold.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Established in 1945 by President Truman, National Disability Employment Awareness Month recognizes and embraces the contributions disabled people have made in the workforce. The theme for NDEAM 2022 is “Disability: Part of the Equity Equation.”

Remembering, Awareness, Healing Lights The Future

In March 2016, Makaela Parsons was 38 weeks pregnant and eagerly awaiting the arrival of a baby girl named Kemptynn. She began feeling pain and fatigue but knew that women at this stage of pregnancy are often uncomfortable and thought that any discomfort was typical. When she noticed that Kemptynn had stopped moving regularly, her doctor advised her to count the baby’s kicks. After 30 minutes of feeling no movement, she and her husband Travis decided it was time to go to the hospital.

Megan Hunt Wants To Make The Good Life Better

A mother’s concern spurred her into politics. There was not only a concern for her young son, but for the welfare of all Nebraska’s children.

At the time, Omaha Public Schools were revising their sex education curriculum.

Ensuring Tomorrow Comes For Everyone Through Education, Awareness, Prevention

As September is Suicide Awareness Month, it is important to give focus to those who are trying to help those who are struggling with mental health and suicidal ideation. The Kim Foundation is focused on building education about mental health and suicide prevention, while breaking down the stigma around the issues that keep people from seeking help. The Foundation was created in 2001 by Larry Courtnage and his family, in honor of his daughter Kim who had died by suicide at the age of 24.
