While conducting vehicle searches in Anbar Province in Iraq, Corporal Jason L. Dunham engaged the driver of a vehicle after he hopped out of it and physically challenged American troops. The Iraqi dropped a grenade in the middle of the skirmish. Without hesitation, Dunham, a 22-year-old New York native, used his body to shield others from the explosion.

Omaha has many religious places of worship, but only one Temple of Beauty. Windowless walls of pink Georgia-marble reach high into the air as if to both catch as much sunlight as possible while also protecting that which it both dearly covets, but also freely shares from its vaults. On an inscription that has been hewn by stonemasons of the 1930’s into the inner wall of the old entryway a quote – or maybe it’s a resolution lays bare the intentions of the builders:

If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around, does it make a sound … Well, without our air, which is filled with molecules, the world would be silent. Sound is a vibration carried by acoustic waves, which travel through various elements in our atmosphere. But, if you don’t believe it, see or rather hear for yourself.

After being appointed to the New York City Art Commission, she was invited to the annual dinner at a men’s club in New York. The invitation said “Black Tie,” so she wore a black evening gown with a black bow tie.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he has President Joe Biden's back. It's almost enough for me to take him off my list of possible successors to the incumbent president. Having Biden's back is not a matter of loyalty.

For this month’s newsletter, Dr. Goss of Creighton focuses on the changing housing prices in the United States. Comparing the last 3 years, Goss notes a spike in mortgage rates and housing prices that he believes have led to a higher rate of renting over home buying. He noted a 4% spike in the 30-year mortgage rate in the last few years, leading to a high 7%, as well as the average cost of homes creeping up towards the $400,000.

A study by the company moveBuddha – an organization studying trends in moving and assisting individuals in making changing homes easier- names Nebraska as 6th in the country on their list of the worst states for rental stability. The company used tenant reviews from Rate The Landlord to scale local populations.
